Checking in
Chinese hotel check-in runs similarly to international hotels with one key difference: your passport is required and will often be held briefly while they photograph or scan it for registration. You'll also be asked to pay a deposit (押金 yājīn) in cash or by card, which is returned at checkout. Room keys are typically electronic cards.
